Garn Gron 360° panorama (109Kb)

Garn Gron (541m/1778') lies on the western edge of the Cambrian Mountains, 3 miles south of Strata Florida. Despite its amazing views, it receives few visitors, though it is on the Cambrian Way long-distance route from Cardiff to Conwy. It seems to have had greater significance in ages past, judging from the several ancient cairns scattered around the hill-top.

The panorama shows Plynlimon (Pumlumon) on the skyline above the cairn, and Cader Idris (very faint at this resolution) to its left. Turning clockwise you will see part of the enormous Tywi forest, and on the horizon above where the nearest part of the forest ends, you can make out the top of Drygarn Fawr. Continuing round you can see the Carmarthen Fan or Black Mountain in the far distance to the south. The small town of Tregaron is just visible above the shelter cairn, and to its left, above the tiny pond, you would see the Preseli mountains of Pembrokeshire on a very clear day.
