Pumlumon Fawr 360° panorama (100Kb)

Pumlumon (pronounced "Pimlimmon", and sometimes anglicised to "Plynlimon") is a massif rather than a single summit. Its highest point, and the highest point in the Cambrian Mountains, is Pen Pumlumon Fawr (2468 feet or 752 metres). The viewpoint for this panorama is 50 yards north of the summit trig pillar.

The panorama starts looking roughly west, with the coastline of Cardigan Bay in the left distance, and on the right, the western part of Nant-y-moch reservoir at Pumlumon's foot. The rounded hill that seems almost to be surrounded by the reservoir is Drosgol. To the right of the reservoir, directly above the patch of stony ground, is the rounded grassy hump of Pumlumon Fach; above that again is another rounded grassy whaleback - Banc Llechwedd Mawr; and on the skyline above that are the Tarren hills, beyond the Dyfi estuary. To the right of Banc Llechwedd Mawr is a boggy valley with forest above it; on the skyline above the forest is Cader Idris, with the Carneddau of northern Snowdonia very faint in the distance to its right. The hill with the purple-brown heathery summit is Tarren Bwlch-gwyn, and on the skyline above it are the distinctively shaped Aran mountains. Further round, just to the left of the foreground cairn, is the cleft of Cwm Gwerin; you can just see the Berwyn mountains on the skyline above this. Right of the cairn is Pen Pumlumon Arwystli - the second highest summit of the Plynlimon range. Further right, above a distinctive fence-post, Radnor Forest is on the horizon, with the upper Wye valley leading away from Plynlimon just a little further right. To the south, the most obvious feature is the summit trig. pillar, because the distant horizon is obscured by the glare of the low November sun; in good conditions, the Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons, and Black Mountain are easily visible.
