CMS Banner at the Senedd

By something of a miracle, after over a month of drizzle and rain, the sun came weakly through to welcome us, and the other protesters, to yesterday’s renewable power station protest at the Senedd.     There were 400 on the buses down from all over Mid-Wales, and more arrived under their own steam.  There were even a number of friendly locals there to support our cause, something around 500 people in total including quite a number of CMS members from all around Wales.  With singing from Llanwrtyd Wells’ finest, the O’Hara Band, the atmosphere was full of enthusiasm, and the drummers kept the beat going until the speeches started.

LCB at the Senedd 2026We heard from the current Senedd Member for Brecon & Radnorshire before Jenny Chryss from ReThink and our own Lorna Brazell took the microphone to talk about the impact of these developments on local communities and on biodiversity and nature resilience.  You can read the text of Lorna’s speech here,  or watch the video here.

The protest was ignored by the BBC but we’re hopeful Channel 4, who were there, will report on it as did Wales Online and other papers.  But Labour, Plaid Cymru and the Greens all declined to attend which was disappointing to say the least – they must have heard the chanting from their offices inside!  It’s quite possible there will be another Senedd event before the election; maybe if we get a thousand people there next time, the ones who think they have the right to determine our future will have the courtesy to come and meet us to explain why they think they know best.
