One of the three great rivers to rise in the Pumlumon massif, the Severn is the longest and the one which has most of its length across the border in England/Lloegr. As a result it is managed by Severn-Trent plc. On this occasion however they are looking purely at the Welsh end including the source in the Cambrian Mountains, and devising a management plan for the next ten years. You can see what they have in mind here.
Since the development of a major power station at Banc Du above Llangurig will certainly have an impact on this first and smallest section of the river, it is to be hoped that the water company will be thinking hard about the best way to prevent harm to the tributaries and groundwater over the area. There are many more aspects to consider too. The Trustees will be putting in a response on behalf of the Society, but it is open to individuals to respond as well – and a series of information events are being held over the next month before the consultation closes on 24 March 2026. Full details of where and when are in the link above.
