The isolated phone box at Nantymaen (where the Tregaron-Abergwesyn mountain road crosses the Camddwr valley) has been a victim of vandalism, and BT has now decided that it should be de-commissioned and removed. People have until 2nd January to lodge an objection with Ceredigion County Council. The Elenydd Wilderness Hostels Trust, which operates two hostels in the area, is spearheading a campaign to keep the phone box, on the grounds that there is no mobile signal in the area, and very few, scattered houses, so it could be a lifeline for walkers, cyclists and others in difficulty in a very remote area, with no shelter.
