Clatter Village Hall

The Society’s 2025 AGM will take place on Saturday 11 October at 11 am, at Clatter Village Hall.  Most if not all members will have passed through Clatter on the road between Machynlleth and Caersws, though not all may have stopped to admire the village.  It is well connected with both bus and train services (see more details below), so we hope that the location in the far northern end of the Cambrians will not put members off from coming!

Clatter Village Hall interior The business of the meeting will as usual occupy the morning, after which we will have lunch (perhaps not quite as exuberantly as this previous event in the Hall!)  After lunch, we will have three speakers:

John Gilbey, journalist and regular contributor to the Guardian Country Diary; Dr Will Lock of the University of Sussex who is currently running a project in the Carmarthenshire part of the Cambrians looking at the Impact of forestry on rural communities; and Red Liford, walker and naturalist extraordinaire, who will talk to us about the dragonflies and damselflies of the Cambrians.  We are throwing the afternoon session open to the public, so do tell your friends!

The day will round off with tea, coffee and cake at approximately 4pm.  We hope to see you there.  There is no charge, but for catering numbers it would as always be useful to have an advance idea of numbers so please do sign up using the form below.

Getting to Clatter

Despite its position on the extreme north of our area, it is easy to get to Clatter by public transport.

Trains

Anyone leaving from Aberystwyth or Machynlleth can get the train (9.29 from Aber, 10.03 from Mach) to Caersws and we can arrange transfer from there to Clatter itself; there is a return train leaving at 5.14pm. Or from the other direction there are hourly trains; the 10.07 from Newtown would work.

Bus

Alternately by bus, the X85 runs regularly from either Mach or Newtown, and will drop you by the primary school in Clatter itself.
