WE’RE HAVING TO MAKE SOME CHANGES TO OUR PROPOSED WALK DUE TO THE FIRE DAMAGE FROM THE RECENT BLAZE, which extends all the way from north of Claerwen across to Rhayader mountain road, reaching as far as Llyn Fyrddon Fawr & Fach. The revised route will be only 8.5 miles, calling it a day at 6 miles, with the most northerly point at Carn Rhyddod. Of course, if the fires get going again we may have to cancel entirely; watch this space.
On Saturday May 16th, Red Liford is leading a walk north of Pontrhydfendigaid, with a 7.5 mile basic loop and an optional 2.5 mile extension to take in Llyn Egnant and Llyn Teifi of the Teifi Pools. This walk involves about 1000 ft of ascent in total, crossing rough vegetation as well as a section along the very minor road.
Starting at 10 am sharp we’ll be walking NNE via Llan Ddu Fawr and Carregbwlchllynfyrddon to reach our most northerly point at Bryn Poeth before heading back south along Esgair Garregnawllyn to Claerddu Bothy. This ‘circuit’ will take us around Llynnoedd Fyrddon Fach and Fawr. Meeting the road again there is the option of cutting back to the cars, or continuing on to Llyn Egnant and Llyn Teifi, for the full 10 miles. If you choose to do the Pools extension and like the company of a paper map, as well as Red’s expert navigation, you may need OS Sheet Explorer 187 ‘Llandovery’ in addition to Explorer 213 ‘Aberystwyth & Cwm Rheidol’ for the basic loops, since that one only covers the country to the north of the Teifi Pools road.
Parking is limited. To reach the start, turn off the B4343 (the Pont-rhyd-y-groes to Pontrhydfendigaid road) at Ffair-Rhos toward Teifi Pools (Junction formed by the Teifi Inn). Go past the quite major farm track turning (Tynddol) on the right followed by a small reservoir below the road, also on the right. Shortly after there is some parking on the left hand side of the road at What3Words estimated.pats.gossip this being about 2.1 miles from the Teifi Inn turning. We may need to arrange car sharing if the walk is very popular!
Please let Red know if you are planning to join the walk, at Email address:- redford640@gmail.com or mobile number – 07977 967395.
