Cambrian-Mountainss-Caban-Coch-Reservoir

After the stunningly dry and sometimes sunny March walk, we’re sticking with the Elenydd for April’s walk on Sunday 19th.  The plan is to take a seven mile scenic circular walk on paths and tracks around Caban Coch Reservoir with great views.  Nant Gwyllt HouseThough anyone remembering the Percy Bysshe Shelley connection (a reminder, in the form of the Mid-Wales Prize-winning poem from 2023, can be read here) may be disappointed, as his house is now underneath the water.

Nant y Gro dam

The remains of Nant y Gro dam of “Bouncing Bomb” fame (and a scheduled Ancient Monument)

Starting at 10 am at the Elan Valley Visitor Centre (which means paying the parking charge – unless you opt to park further up the valley and walk back to meet the group), after strolling alongside the reservoir, the route climbs past the ruins of the small dam, the Nant y Gro dam, with its Barnes Wallace (“Bouncing Bomb”) connection.

Further on we will pass Llannerch y Cawr Longhouse and eventually drop down to Nant Gwllt Church to cross the dam and return to the Visitor Centre (with the possibility of refreshments).

Dogs are allowed on this walk but given it is lambing season, keep them on short leads please.

If you would like to join this walk please contact Judy Gore on her mobile number as circulated in the members’ email.
