Cambrian-Mountains-GlaslynOn September 15th, John Bimson will be leading a walk for CMS Members up around Hafren and Glaslyn.   The terrain is the higher ground of the Cambrians, unimproved grassland and heather moorland above 400m, mostly along Glyndwr’s Way, with views of Cadair Idris, Pumlumon and (cloud permitting) Yr Wyddfa. Much of the walk will overlook areas proposed by Bute Energy Ltd for its “Esgair Galed Energy Park” (twenty-six turbines each 220m in height), adjacent at its western end to Pumlumon SSSI and Glaslyn Nature Reserve and extending over 2 miles eastwards on both sides of the Avon Clywedog.

As well as showcasing the beauty of this upland plateau as it stands (some of it maintained by volunteers, including John, as a Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve), the walk will provide an opportunity to understand the scale of the proposed windfarm and its potential impact on the Pumlumon SSSI.

We’ll start at 10.30 am from waste ground near the Star Inn, Dylife, below the old Dylife churchyard. (GR: SN862940).  It’ll be around 7 miles with 320m elevation gain   If you’re coming along, do let John know beforehand (see the Members’ email already circulated for his contact details).
