The next walk will be on 17 August 2024, led by Trustee Maurice Kyle. His plan is to start from the old Dyffryn Castell hotel (now derelict), a mile or two east of Ponterwyd on the A44. We’ll climb via Fagwyr Fawr over Draws Drum (573 m) and Pen Dihewyd (513 m), then descend almost to Ponterwyd before following a bit of the Cambrian Way path back to Dyffryn Castell.
This walk, which is around 8 miles with 1500 feet of ascent, gives good views of the proposed site of the Lluest y Gwynt wind farm across the valley, and should illustrate how fabulous this area is for walking, and how Ponterwyd should be a popular walking centre. Views of the existing Cefn Croes wind farm with its ‘little, old’ turbines will enable a comparison of the impact Lluest Y Gwynt threatens to have on this most-travelled cross-section of the Cambrians.
Walk will start at 10 am and should end around 3pm allowing for lunch stops. Let Maurice know in advance if you’re planning to join – details will be in the Members’ email, as usual.
