For the last walk of the 2024 season, we’ll be taking a short stroll with leader Peter Foulkes around the hill fort at Dinas. Starting from the back entrance to the visitor centre/cafe at Nant Yr Arian at 9:45am, the route will take us 9km (5.5 miles) with 300m of ascent up and over an Iron Age settlement above Ponterwyd. The walk will actually approach the fort from the south so walking through the ‘gate’ opening is most likely (but anyone who wants to storm the ramparts is welcome to find another angle from which to do so). The walk will also include a look into the depths of a nearby, but more modern development, put in place by the CEGB (do you remember them?) in the 1960s. Weather permitting the ‘summit’ should also provide views over the rolling upland landscape that we hope will not become the home of the proposed giant Lluest y Gwynt wind farm.
The terrain is a mix of PRoWs, minor road, and ‘off-piste’ which will include a small river crossing, the Nant Glan-dŵr, so maybe a spare pair of socks may come in handy.
Peter’s contact details are in the Members’ email as usual; do please let him know if you intend to come along.
