Mountain-pansies-in-the-Cambrians

Ten members of either ‘Aberystwyth Ramblers’ or CMS (or both) met up with walk leader Dave Taylor for a walk through Dyffrynnoedd Hengwm and Hyddgen, starting at Maesnant – a once-abandoned farmstead cum Field Center but now looking to be undergoing a major make over.

Marching through HengwmCompared to the heat wave of previous days the weather was a little cooler, and we even had a little drizzle to help the party on its way.  Perhaps the highlight of the day was finding a patch of ‘Mountain Pansies’ / Trilliw’r Mynydd / Viola lutea flowering in the ‘meadow’ adjacent to the abandoned gamekeeper’s cottage above Bugeilyn.  However, the view over the nant (or is it a leat?) which connects Llyn Cwm-byr with Bugeilyn, looking towards the boathouse, was a good second.  And the watercourse held the added bonus of Yellow Water-lilies / Lili’r dwr Felen / Nuphar lutea, again in flower.

Thanks Dave for leading what was a very enjoyable ‘lollipop’ (and an extra thank you to D for finding the Pansies).
