A draft assessment of the condition and future of the route (so far as it lies within Powys) was published in 2020 by Powys County Council, which then sought submissions from users and user groups to help it in its decisions about future management. The Council has now announced a decision to carry out engineering works over part of the track within Powys, in order to reinforce the surface. The damage such works will cause to this ancient track, and the risk of encouraging greater use of it by motor vehicles over the Ceredigion section, has alarmed CMS, and all who love Elenydd for its wildness and peace.
The Society has written to the Council expressing its grave concern.
