Our latest video was an informative look at the status of red squirrels in mid-Wales including an outstanding tip on how to distinguish reds from greys – hint: it isn’t all about fur colour – and an insight into the difficulties of assessing populations caused by squirrels who don’t visit cameras, and some who seem to get hooked on getting into traps “for a break from minding the kits”.  The science is thought-provoking: did you know that the Cambrian Mountains population of reds includes unique genetic markers? though the overall picture is somewhat murky, and the survival of this small and isolated population certainly cannot be taken for-granted.  You can see the whole on our recording above – and thanks once more to Sarah Purdon for an excellent presentation!
