Anti-social Behaviour

There are growing concerns that a small but damaging number of visitors making trips into the countryside, including the Cambrian Mountains, are endangering not only each other, but livestock, wildlife and the environment.
While most visitors act responsibly as the easing of lockdown progresses, there are those who are treating the countryside without respect. Farmers have reported a rise in the number of incidents of barbecue use and fire lighting along with litter. This causes a serious environmental health issue not only for other visitors but also for livestock and wildlife.
The issue of vehicles being parked dangerously on roadside verges, narrow tracks and across access points also prompts safety concerns.
The Cambrian Mountains Society is particularly concerned about visitors behaving in ways which infringe upon others’ safety and enjoyment of the region. This includes:
- lighting fires,
- having dogs which are not kept properly under control around livestock,
- leaving litter and in some cases human waste
- taking motorised vehicles, both trail bikes/ scramblers, and 4x4s, along tracks for which they are not authorised and not suitable.
Responsible access to the countryside should respect the Countryside Code for Wales:
Respect everyone
- be considerate to those living in, working in and enjoying the countryside
- leave gates and property as you find them
- do not block access to gateways or driveways when parking
- be nice, say hello, share the space
- follow local signs and keep to marked paths unless wider access is available
Protect the environment
- take your litter home – leave no trace of your visit
- take care with BBQs and do not light fires
- always keep your dogs under control and in sight
- dog poo – bag it and bin it in any public waste bin
- care for nature – do not cause damage or disturbance
