On 20th November 2015, the UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change refused permission for this major development, which would have included 125m turbines less than 2km from the Pumlumon summit ridge. Click here for a government press release with further information and links.

The National Infrastructure Planning Inspectorate completed its examination of the proposal in May 2015, and on 20th August it made its recommendation to the Secretary of State that the development be permitted.

During the six-month examination, the Cambrian Mountains Society submitted a major paper, prepared by its consultant Geoffrey Sinclair, concentrating mainly on landscape issues. The Planning Inspector also held a number of local Hearings, in all of which the Society participated.

CMS welcomes the Secretary of State’s decision, but is disappointed that neither it nor the PI’s recommendation gave sufficient weight to the impact the development would have had on one of Wales’ most outstanding landscapes.
